OPPO RENO 3 PRO - REVIEW

It was last year Oppo launched the Reno series. We have seen how well the Reno models performed and now Oppo has added another model to the series - Reno 3 Pro. It's available in China as a 5G smartphone, however, in India 5G feature isn't available. Just like we have seen in other Oppo phones, Reno 3 Pro have an excellent design and a powerful 64MP quad-camera setup and a 44MP dual punch hole camera at the front which is the world's first, not to mention the impressive performance. The Chinese brand has always delivered smartphones that were well-regarded and admired by the people and Reno 3 Pro with its elegant design and compelling features is already getting thumbs-up by many.

Oppo is renowned for its designs and Reno 3 Pro is also designed well enough to create a good first impression at first glance. Like we have seen in the majority of the smartphones, Reno 3 Pro also boasts a plastic body with a glossy finish at the rear panel. As we mentioned earlier, this phone comes with a dual punch hole camera which is placed on the top left corner of the screen. The screen is safeguarded with Gorilla 5 glass and it features thin bezels except for the bottom part where the bezel is a tad thicker comparatively. Adding to that, the fingerprint scanner is embedded on the screen like we often see in new smartphones. The phone is surrounded by a plasticky frame and all the edges have given the cliche curve. The buttons are placed ergonomically enough for the user to reach easily. You can find the volume buttons on the left just below the sim tray which comes with two slots for nano SIMs and a dedicated slot for microSD card. The power button is placed on the opposite side. The USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, speaker and the primary microphone are placed at the bottom panel and the secondary microphone is placed isolatedly on the top.

Coming to the rear side, the panel is given a glossy finish which looks brilliant. On the top left, the quad-camera is placed on a rectangular panel with curved edges. The protrusion of the panel is apparent enough that keeping the phone can't be placed flat on a flat surface. However, a back case can solve this problem. Altogether this lightweight smartphone with 175 g, has an elegant design which gives it a premium look.

Display compartment is another area Reno 3 Pro excels. If you are a gamer of a movie buff, Reno 3 Pro makes the cut. The tall 6.4inches Super AMOLED display is an impressive one. The screen has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 capable of delivering immersive viewing experience whether it be HD movies of high-end games. Thanks to the 16.7m display colours, the pictures displayed on Reno 3 pro are vivid. The brightness of the phone is excellent and is intelligent enough to adjust according to the light in the surrounding. This makes Reno 3 Pro quite good for using outdoor.

If you look at phones that are launched nowadays, the specs on the paper would be stupendous but the actual performance might not be up to the mark. Contrary to that, Reno 3 Pro performs excellently according to its specs. It is equipped with a stronger version of MediaTek Helio P90 SoC which is MediaTek Helio P95. This means you would not face any lag while navigation or multitasking. However, this chipset is not as powerful as the Snapdragon chipsets which is a bit of a concern but you won't be disappointed with the performance.

Reno 3 Pro boots fastly and the applications get opened swiftly. You won't feel any lag while going through the menu, multitasking and even if you open some apps together. However, the phone gets a wee bit laggy when you open the camera whilst other apps are opened in the background. Other than that the processor and the 8GB RAM do the brilliant job is keeping the phone smooth. The in-display fingerprint lock is also quick to respond and unlock the phone. Moreover, the PowerVR GM9446 GPU keeps the lag at bay while gaming, delivering a smooth performance. Also, it doesn't get unbearably heat which means you can play games for a longer period comfortably. In a nutshell, the performance is quite decent and won't bother you in any way.

Oppo Reno 3 Pro - Camera

The camera is all about Reno 3 Pro and you would've guessed it from its tagline 'Clear in every shot'. Reno 3 Pro is the world's first smartphone to be equipped with 44MP selfie camera. This camera is accompanied by a 2MP secondary camera. At the back, we have a quad camera which has become quite common. The camera application offers lots of features like Night mode, Portrait, Slo-Mo, Panorama, Timelapse HDR and various filters which can be set before taking the snap. There is also another feature called 'Dazzle Color' which helps in enhancing the contrast. Furthermore, the AI scene recognition is in place to detect what you are capturing.

Let's start with the rear cameras. Oppo has done an excellent job in the camera segment. The Quad camera is capable of delivering crisp and bright images in daylight. The night mode comes to the rescue if you want to capture bright and crisp images in low light. The 13MP telephoto lens offers 20x zoom and the zoomed images look pretty detailed too. Reno 3 Pro's 8MP wide-angle camera enables you to capture 119 field view in one frame. Talking about the image quality, they are capable of delivering well-detailed images. The mono lens also does an impeccable job in delivering crisp and vibrant images.

Coming to the selfie camera, you can capture good selfies with it. However, for photography enthusiasts, the clarity will seem a little low. You also get the option to take portrait images in the selfie camera, which can furnish you with selfies with a perfectly blurred background. Still, the selfie camera can be bettered. You could also shoot videos of up to 4K with rear camera and 1080p with the selfie camera with decent stability. In short, the camera is commendable yet there are tiny cons here and there.

Reno 3 Pro sports a 4025mAh powerful battery which can provide enough fuel to last more than a day in one charge with normal usage. The phone also features 30W VOOC Flash charge 4.0 which enables you to charge the phone from 0 to 100% within 1 hour. With all this, you will not come across any problem regarding the battery. Reno 3 Pro is truly one of the smartphones with a powerful battery which is accompanied by flash charging technology. Oppo Reno 3 Pro - Variants 

Oppo has done a brilliant job in making Reno 3 Pro beautiful and elegant. The phones come in three colours which are Auroral Blue, Midnight Black and, Sky White. All of them plays an important role in improving the aesthetics of the phone. As in RAM and ROM, it comes with an 8GB RAM and 128 ROM which can be expanded up to 256 GB and there is another variant which comes with 256GB by default with the same RAM. As of now, these many variants are available in the market.

Oppo Reno 3 Pro - Price 

Considering the specifications and the corresponding performance, the price of Reno 3 Pro is fair but there is a room for decrement. The variant with 128ROM is priced at Rs.30245 and the one with 256GB ROM is priced at Rs. 32990.

Summary 

Reno 3 Pro comes with compelling features, especially the design and camera, and performs excellently. However, some areas could've been a tad better to attain a 10/10 rating. Anyways, it won't disappoint you and the price is quite fair when we compare the phone with its competitors like Realme X2 Pro which comes with similar specifications and is capable of delivering similar performance.
